One of the great things about Shopify is how the eCommerce platform gives you, the merchant, plenty of options for payment capture. From credit and debit transactions, PayPal, and Apple Pay, your customers have lots of choices to spend how they choose.
One option that helps your store stand out from the crowd, is Sezzle. Sezzle is a third-party payment processor that gives your customers the ability to pay for their orders over time, without the need for running their credit.
It can be found on the Shopify App Store and easily installed onto an existing Shopify website. Sezzle does require that merchants submit an application before enabling the payment option on a store.
Here are some reasons you should offer Sezzle on your store:
1. It is easy to install.
After the application has been approved, just download the app from the Shopify App Store. Sezzle will even install the widgets on your store for you. Just follow their prompts and you’ll be up and running with Sezzle in no time.
2. It will boost your sales.
Customers are growing to love and trust Sezzle (check out their 4.8 rating on Trustpilot.com). The option to provide this popular payment option keeps customers from turning away when their final cart price is too high, which in turn will increase your average order value (AOV). Who doesn’t love the idea of an interest-free, pay-over-time option that helps you afford bigger purchases?
3. You Get Paid in Full, Right Away.
While Sezzle does the hard work of collecting those payments over time from the customer, you get paid the full amount up front (after a small transaction period). This means you don’t have to wait around for weeks for the full amount to be received over time, and you also don’t have to run any risk of the customer defaulting on their payments. Sezzle takes the risk and you take the money.
4. It Doesn’t Run a Credit Check.
Sezzle uses what’s called a “soft check”, which allows them to look at a customer’s credit score while not showing up or impacting their credit score.
5. It’s Secure.
Sezzle maintains Payment Card Industry (PCI) Level 1 certification, which means they are held to the same standard and are just as secure as your other trusted payment processors.
6. They Give You Account Options.
When Sezzle collects your payments, they give you the option to choose between the “Automatic Withdrawal Plan” or the “Interest Plan”. With the Automatic Withdrawal Plan, your funds are available faster. If you can afford to wait however, Sezzle’s Interest Plan bears up to 8.00% APY. That’s not bad.
But Wait, What’s the Catch?
Really there’s only one downside: the transaction fees. Sezzle charges the merchant transaction fees to the tune of 6.0% + 30 cents every time a customer uses that option. Compared to the standard 2.9% + 30 cents charged by PayPal and Shopify Pay - it’s nearly double the fee. Make sure you use our referral link though and have the first month’s transactions waived.
However, there are ways to minimize these higher fees. First, make sure you use our referral like and get your first month’s transaction fees waived.
As the store owner, you can set minimum order values for your customers to use Sezzle. A good rule of thumb is to take your AOV and add 10% for a decent minimum order value. Just make sure you advertise those restrictions to your customers and Sezzle will set up the rest.
By using minimum order values and the Interest Plan, you can easily minimize the cost of transactions and benefit from the boost in sales Sezzle will bring.
So How Do I Get Started?
It’s easy. Click here to start your application (your referral code to waive the transaction fees for the first month will automatically be applied).
